#Ethereum's 10th Anniversary Outlook: From Technical Experiment to Transformation into a Global Economic Infrastructure
Ethereum celebrates its tenth anniversary milestone, and this second-largest cryptocurrency is standing at a new historical starting point.
Looking back over the past decade, ETH has evolved continuously amid controversy and innovation, from its initial proof-of-work mechanism to the current proof-of-stake model, from the DAO fork incident to the NFT boom.
In terms of technical upgrades, Ethereum has established a clear roadmap. The focus will soon be on advancing two major upgrades, Fusaka and Glamsterdam, which are expected to be implemented in November of this year and in 2026, respectively. These upgrades will significantly enhance the network's data processing efficiency and user experience.
In addition, Consensys revealed that Ethereum Layer-1 will achieve a 10-fold expansion within the next 12 months, while the interoperability of Layer-2 solutions will also make breakthrough progress.
From a commercial application perspective, Ethereum is driving on-chain throughput, institutional adoption rate, and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA).
Bitwise member Max Shannon predicts that ETH will fully simplify the network process from the verkle tree state to the complete danksharding upgrade, significantly lowering the operational threshold for nodes.
Hart Lambur, co-founder of Risk Labs, predicts that most assets will be tokenized on Ethereum, making it the "settlement layer for internet value."
In the face of potential threats from quantum computing, the Ethereum community has long been preparing for the worst. Vitalik Buterin proposed a cryptographic improvement plan in 2024, and research on quantum-resistant cryptography is still ongoing. Consensys stated that Ethereum is at the forefront of the industry in addressing such challenges.
Puffer Labs co-founder Amir Forouzani even boldly predicts that as user experience improves and platform advantages become apparent, Ethereum's defensive capabilities in terms of security may eventually surpass those of Bitcoin.
In summary, from idealism to practical application, from technological experimentation to economic infrastructure, the next decade of Ethereum may witness blockchain technology truly becoming mainstream. As Linehan stated, when the world collectively builds this open system, its power will be beyond imagination.
In this settlement network that connects everything, Ethereum may become "boring," but it is precisely this "boring" that may signify the true beginning of its maturity.
